Independence advances to 7-on-7 nationals

June 23, 2009
North Carolina

By Kevin Carroll
Charlotte Observer

CHARLOTTE
- With some of the Carolinas' biggest high school football stars in town Saturday for the Carolina Panthers 7-on-7 High School Passing Tournament, it was the hometown Patriots from Independence who stole the show.

The six-team tournament featured three elite high school programs from both North and South Carolina in 25-minute "touch" football games.

The N.C. high schools were 2008 4AA semifinalist, Independence, 2AA state champion Reidsville, and 3A champion West Rowan. South Carolina was represented by 2008 4A Division I semifinalist Roebuck Dorman, 3A semifinalist Marlboro County and 4A Division II state champion Rock Hill South Pointe.
