RED SPRINGS - When Eva Patterson-Heath became head women's basketball coach at Fayetteville State last week, she left a void at Red Springs High School that will be difficult to fill. Just how difficult was expressed well by Bryan McDonald, the school's athletic director. "I'm not sure I'd want to be the one to step in behind her,'' McDonald said. "Replacing her is going to be impossible.''
Patterson-Heath, who had been girls' basketball coach at Red Springs since 1985, compiled a resume at the school few can top.
She won the 500th career game of her career this past season. She took teams to the Eastern Regional tournament eight times and twice sent teams to the state finals.
