The West Stokes Marching Band performed in their first Band Competition of the season on Saturday September 26, 2009. The Wildcat Band Director, Mr. David Bennett, took his Marching Band to Avery High School, located in the beautiful Smokey Mountains, to compete in the Avery Viking Classic Tournament of Bands. Eleven High Schools were set to compete in the lavish confines of the Avery High School Football Stadium. However, Mother Nature intervened with steady rains and forced the competition indoors to the school's gymnasium. The schools were Classified by band size into 3 categories, 1A, 2A and 3A. West Stokes was judged in the 3A classification. The Wildcats showcased their 2009 program of 40's Swing Music to the delight of the crowd. The Marching Wildcats were given a Superior Rating for their performance and were awarded first place trophies for Drum Major, Brittney Jackson, the Drumline, the Horn Line, second place for the color guard and first place for the Pit Crew. The Band also received a first place trophy for the best 3A band. |
