T.C. Roberson parlays Brittany success to 3-A ranking

By Paul Durham Wilson Daily Times WILSON - Asheville T.C. Roberson left The Brittany Willis Memorial Scholarship Soccer Showcase this weekend at Gillette Athletic Complex with two wins and a return to the state 3-A rankings.
The Lady Rams blanked Jacksonville 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, giving them nine straight unanswered goals following Friday night's 6-2 defeat of Fike.
Roberson (8-2-1) moved into the No. 11 spot in the latest N.C. Soccer Coaches Association poll while Jacksonville (8-3) fell out of the rankings from the 13th spot it held last week. The Lady Rams were the 2008 N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A state runners-up.
Kendall Smith, Ashley Vanlandingham, Sarah Linhart and Kattherine Ellis each had goals while Vanlandingham, Ellis and Nicole Cucchi rang up assists.
Ellis and Kerrian Hall of Jacksonville won their respective team's sportsmanship awards.
8:30 a.m. games
Nash Central 4, Lejeune 3
Brittany Wells scored a pair of goals as the 3-A NEW 6 Conference Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-2.
Lydia Hunt and Natalie Rich also had goals for Nash Central while Anna Wisler scored twice and Andrea Roca had a goal for Lejeune (3-4) of the Coastal Plains Conference.
Jasmine Williams was named Nash Central's sportsmanship winner while Halle Jackson earned the honor for Lejeune.
Wayne Country Day 3, Halifax Academy 1
Wayne Country Day (4-0) yielded the first goal to Halifax Academy (2-2-1), an unassisted goal by Hayley Wood.
Then Mack Thompson, Brooke Norris and Catherine Ford retaliated in succession for the Lady Chargers of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A Coastal Plains Independents Conference .
Norris picked up the sportsmanship award for WCD while Kayla Kessinger was so honored for Halifax Academy.
Rocky Mount Academy 7, Wayne Christian 0
Stephanie Lessau drilled in four goals as RMA strafed their NCISAA 1-A Carolina Christian Conference opponent in an uncharacteristically one-sided match.
Kylie Westcott also notched a pair of goals for RMA.
Lessau received the sportsmanship award as did Devan Isenhower of Wayne Christian.
Cary Academy 3, Clinton 0
Jackie Bennett had a goal and an assist to lead Cary Academy (5-2), ranked 13th in the state private school poll.
Bennett was chosen as the sportsmanship award winner for Cary Academy while Camille Carr got the nod for the Lady Darkhorses (3-6-1).
Northside 4, Pasquotank 1
Felexia Brasswell put in a pair of goals for the NCHSAA 2-A East Central Conference Lady Monarchs, who also got goals from Renee Ellefson and Gabrielle McGee.
Samantha Gray notched Pasquotank's goal.
Ariel Kase of Jacksonville Northside and Samantha Craig of Pasquotank were saluted as sportsmanship award winners.
10:45 a.m. games
Rose 4, East Wake 1
The Lady Rampants scored three unanswered goals to snap a 1-1 deadlock. Madie Lewis had two goals while Sydnor Coffman and Hannah Daly also scored. Cassie DeQuieroz, Kimmy Lawrence, Mary Beth Harrington and Coffman provided assists.
Jackie Ammons had East Wake's goal on a pass from Amanda Dean.
East Wake's Anna Riddle and Greenville Rose's Terra Graziani took home sportsmanship game balls.
Richlands 4, D.H. Conley 0
Ashley Anctil's hat trick (three goals) triggered the NCHSAA 2-A No. 15-ranked Lady Wildcats (7-3-1).
Brooke Cadanzarito scored for Conley (2-5)
Conley's Becca Morris and Kayla Colon of Richlands were hailed as sportsmanship award recipients.
East Duplin 1, Whiteville 0
The NCHSA 2-A East Central Conference Lady Panthers got their first win in six matches at the expense of the 2-A Waccamaw Conference Lady Wolfpack (5-2-1)
Tara Gore was selected as Whiteville's sportmanship award winner while Lyndsay Carter was the choice from East Duplin.
Southwest Onslow 3, J.A. Holmes 0
Armani Boswell had a goal and an assist to lead the NCHSAA 2-A No. 12-ranked Lady Stallions to their fifth in six matches.
Misty Wilbanks and Jamie Berti also scored while Tiffany Turner and Heather Simanson had assists.
Turner picked up the sportsmanship award for Southwest Onslow while Gibson Parrish did the same for Edenton Holmes (6-1-1).
South View 1, West Johnston 0
Heather Kashner scored the only goal in this clash of NCHSAA 4-A squads.
Lindsey Davis of Hope Mills South View and Brittany Talbolt of West Johnston were selected as sportsmanship award winners.
1 p.m. games
Calvary Baptist 5, Currituck 0
Addison West and Megan Ziesmer had two goals apiece as Calvary Baptist Day School of Winston-Salem departed with its second win at The Brittany V.
Brennan Ehlinger, who scored the other goal, was the recipient of the sportsmanship award for Calvary Baptist, ranked ninth among state private schools. Emily Adams was saluted for Currituck County.
Charlotte Latin 4, St. Mary's 0
The defending NCISAA 3-A state champion Lady Hawks, coached by former Greenfield head coach Lee Horton, strengthened their grip on the top spot in the NCSCA private school rankings with their second shutout of the weekend.
Sportsmanship awards went to Liza Wooten of St. Mary's and Morgan Holt of Charlotte Latin.
Laney 2, Watauga County 1
Brittany Batts' two second-half goals proved the difference for Wilmington Laney in this battle of 4-A teams from opposite ends of the state each playing their second matches of The Brittany V.
Kaitlyn Mullenix had Watauga's goal.
Ashlyn Clark was named sportsmanship award winner for Watauga County while Batts got the call for Laney.
First Flight 3, Roanoke Rapids 1
Kill Devils Hills First Flight (5-1), which dropped to No. 2 in the poll of NCHSAA 2-A teams, got its second victory of The Brittany V as Stacey Kelly, Sam Hennessy and Ashley Tallcott each scored goals.
Alisya Bradley scored the goal for Roanoke Rapids (3-4).
Sportsmanship awards were handed to Ede Sager of First Flight and the Lady Yellow Jackets' Emily Brattua.
3:15 p.m. games
Franklinton 2, South Brunswick 0
The 2-A No. 10-ranked Lady Rams got goals from Amanda Knapp and Lauren Wilder to improve to 7-2 while South Brunswick dipped to 3-5.
Arendt and Ashley Kjome of South Brunswick were sportsmanship award winners.
New Hanover 1, Grimsley 0
Wilmington New Hanover used this win to leap over Greensboro Grimsley in the state 4-A rankings.
Krin Koballa scored on an assist Kasey Koballa to vault the Lady Wildcats (8-2-1) from No. 10 to No. 9 while the Lady Whirlies dropped from eighth to 11th.
Kasey Koballa and Grimsley's Funbi Adimbola walked off with the sportsmanship award game balls.
Smithfield-Selma 2, Jack Britt 2
In another matchup of NCHSAA 4-A clubs, Britt's Rachael Ramey got a second-half goal to knot the score.
Danielle Lee had both goals for Smithfield-Selma (3-5-1) while Caitlin Novak had the other score for Jack Britt (4-3-1).
Taylor Parrish of Smithfield-Selma and Ramey were honored as sportsmanship award recipients.
5:30 p.m. games
Burlington Williams 1, Clayton 1
Clayton, ranked No. 8 among state 4-A teams, had its winning streak stopped at eight games.
Clara Chandler gave Burlington Williams (3-1-2) the lead in the first half but Skylar Poole netted the second-half equalizer for Clayton.
Sportsmanship award game balls went to Michelle Akins of Williams and Caitlyn Richters of Clayton.
Cardinal Gibbons 2, Forbush 0
Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, the newly top-ranked NCHSAA 2-A team, stayed unbeaten through seven matches as Alana McCarthy and Caitlin Donovan scored. Kaitlyn Murphy and Stefany Saura had the assists.
East Bend Forbush (5-2-1) slipped from sixth to seventh in the 2-A poll.
Anna Hickey of Cardinal Gibbons and Forbush's Jessica Baity received sportsmanship awards.
Rocky Mount 4, West Brunswick 2
The 3-A NEW 6 Conference Lady Gryphons improved to 8-1 with the win against the 3-A Lady Trojans (3-6) of the split 3-A/4-A Mideastern Conference.
Marissa Ramey, Lauren Campell, Allison Raper and Michelle Barringer scored Rocky Mount's goals while Laney Webb had an assist.
Mariah Evans scored for West Brunswick which got a goal and an assist from Julianna Zio.
Evans and Kelsey Benson of Rocky Mount were saluted with sportsmanship awards.
Dixon 3, Rosewood 0
Holly Ridge Dixon ended a tough week with the shutout win. The defending NCHSAA 1-A champion Lady Bulldogs (6-2) dropped from first to third in the state 1-A rankings.
Kara-May Rice, Jenna Paramore and Jaime Edens had goals for Dixon while Alex Scott assisted on Rice's goal.
Rosewood's sportsmanship award winner was Ariel Nacca while Khadijah Sargent received the honor for Dixon. |
