By Langston Wertz Jr.
Charlotte Observer

West Charlotte High's Christal Caldwell, the ME-CA 7 4A player of the year, was the leading vote-getting among girls players on the 2008 Associated Press All-State team.

East Mecklenburg's Malik Stith, the Southwestern 4A player of the year, made the boys all-state first team.

Caldwell, a 5-foot-11 junior, averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists to help West Charlotte reach the first N.C. 4A championship game in school history.

Caldwell earned 27 of a possible 34 points from a 17-member media panel to lead the women's team.
