LAURINBURG - In what appears to be a perfect fit — a school and a coach that have both known great success but are still seeking greater achievement have come together.

Chip Williams was named the new head football coach at Scotland High School at a special-called meeting of the Scotland County Board of Education Thursday morning at the A.B. Gibson Center.

Williams replaces Mark Barnes, who ended his 16-year tenure on Feb. 4 and was named Brevard’s new football coach on the same day.

Williams was unanimously approved by the board following a 30-minute closed session. Williams shook hands with Scotland officials after the board announced its decision to make him the seventh head football coach in the school’s 41-year history.
