CHESTER, S.C. - In 2004, Chester High School hired a football coach who was working in North Carolina. The coach brought a winning pedigree, lots of discipline and an up-tempo offense with him to the Cyclones.

Chester did the same thing on Tuesday, and is hoping for similar results.

Maurice Flowers was named the new head coach at Chester. He will replace Victor Floyd who announced in April he was leaving the school to accept a position at Brunswick High in Georgia.

Floyd led Chester to three straight winning seasons for the first time in more than 50 years and led the school to its first state title game appearance in 44 years this past season.

Floyd and Flowers are actually good friends, dating back to 2000 when Floyd coached at Dudley High in Greensboro and Flowers was coaching Olympic High. The two actually met at a coaching clinic in San Antonio.
