Harnett/Johnston County Area to host Easter Tournaments

Dunn Daily Record Beginning Saturday, South Johnston will continue a tradition, while Triton will begin a new one. Both schools are hosting Easter tournaments that will open tomorrow and extend through Monday and Tuesday. South Johnston has won the Johnston County Easter Tournament six times, including last season, when the Trojans beat two-time defending champion Jack Britt in the first round and cruised past Middle Creek and Harnett Central in the semifinals and finals. The Trojans will open this year's tournament against Middle Creek at 7:30 p.m. Harnett Central plays Smithfield-Selma in the tournament opener at 11 a.m., Cardinal Gibbons plays North Johnston at 1 p.m., and Jack Britt faces West Johnston at 5 p.m. A home run derby will also be held at 3 p.m. The Triton Holiday Invitational will be the first of its kind at the Hawk diamond and features pool play among six teams. Triton, Western Harnett and Fayetteville 71st will decide Pool A on Saturday, and Overhills, Goldsboro and Westover will decide Pool B on Monday, with the first, second and third place teams from each pool facing off on Tuesday. Play will begin tomorrow with Triton facing 71st at 11 a.m. Western will then play 71st at 1 p.m., and the day wraps up with Triton facing Western at 3 p.m. Monday's play will see Goldsboro face Westover at 4 p.m., Westover plays Overhills at 6 p.m. and Overhills plays Goldsboro at 8 p.m. The first place game will take place Tuesday at 8 p.m., following third and fifth place games.
