Making up for lost time: Rockets prevail in 11-inning battle
March 8, 2009 Person High School
The Person softball team nearly made up for an entire week of inaction by opening the season with an 11-inning, 5-3 victory over the Oxford Webb Warriors Friday evening at Webb's home field. "That almost amounted to two games," said Rocket head coach Mike Shotwell "It was nice that we came out of it with a win." Person had seen its first two games of the season get postponed earlier in the week because of last weekend's snowstorm, so after relinquishing a two-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday, the Rockets were able to begin 2009 on a winning note by breaking a 3-3 tie and scratching across two tallies in the top of the 11th.
